From a 14th century French illustration of a siege. Note the use of plate armor by crossbowman and archer alike. The knight on the far left wields an axe with a particularly thick shaft and a long top spike. Note the barricade in front of the doors. One wonders what rocks thrown would do to heavily armored attackers?
