Another illustration of mid-18^th century German martial arts practice. This one shows a type of exhibition event. The center figures use the German messer s wear protective arm padding and apparently some sport of head gear. Next to them two men fence with safe-tipped training foiles and daggers. They are watched by a monitor or instructor with a short staff. In the back of the railed off area two long-staff fighters engage with one being knocked down by a thrust. They too are observed by a monitor or instructor with a similar long staff. A crowd of men are assembled for the spectacle and again a drummer as well as horns can be seen as playing a major role.
